Lumière and Company – Spike Lee

[VIDEO] Back in 1995, Spike Lee took part in a project entitled Lumière and Company where filmmakers such as Lee were to use the cinematograph camera – invented by the Lumière brothers – with these three rules in mind:

  1. A short may be no longer than 52 seconds
  2. No synchronized sound
  3. No more than three takes

I just found out that Lee will be in The Sixth Ward for an event at Chicago State University. Thinking about going but just haven’t decided yet!

Vodkapundit: Required viewing on MLK Day…

[VIDEO] Vodkapundit pays homage to MLK with this video of about 17 Minutes of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream speech” at the August 28, 1963 March on Washington. It’s hard to believe that next year it will be only 50 years ago. Probably still fresh in the memory of those who were there however. Even now we have a long way to go to live up to that vision.

The ever inflating higher education bubble…

[VIDEO] Not to turn this into an outlet for only PJTV vids today, but I’m a regular Instapundit reader. Glenn Reynolds who is the blogmaster there is a law professor at a Tennessee university. He’s often written about amongst other things the issue of high education where he currently works.

This was actually first seen on December 23, 2011 and is part of a series on the big stories of 2011. You need not watch this video or see any stories on this issue in the mainstream media (MSM) to know what he’s referring to. Most of us should know students who are struggling because they’re unable to find any gainful employment to pay off their student loans. Including yours truly.

If you regularly read Reynolds’ blog, he doesn’t just take aim at increasing tuition prices. Indeed he may take aim at the process of college admissions, academics in the classroom, even questions whether or not getting an undergrad or graduate degree is worth it.

There are a lot of reforms necessary here. Perhaps colleges should go back to teaching and then gearing their students towards the workplace in whatever field they choose to study. At the same time, college has to be for the serious and it can’t just be about that sheet of sheepskin.

Happy Holidays from Stephen Green. See a cool Christmas Starship Enterprise, and some very uncool Nancy Pelosi footage. Should the Democrats dump Joe Biden? Should the Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) get a new tailor? Find out on this week’s show as Steve discusses President Obama, Joe Biden, Eric Holder and Whoopi Goldberg, all on the Week in Blogs.

Bill Whittle: Three Years Under Obama

[VIDEO] Taking Obama to task and comparing him to Jimmy Carter:

In his last Afterburner of 2011, Bill Whittle takes a look at the state of this country three years into Obama’s rule and has amassed a list of breathtaking failures bound to stun and/or depress champions of smaller government. Solyndra, Fast & Furious, the Keystone Pipeline and the deficit are just a handful of the scandals that make Bill’s blood boil. So what do we need to do in 2012 to counteract Obama’s policies? Take a look.

I got to meditate on the statement of only Nixon can go to China, and only Obama can cut the deficit. Nixon was known as a strong anti-communist and he could make peace with the “Red Chinese”. Obama as a decidely strong “Liberal” or “Progressive” could’ve cut spending and therefore decrease the deficit.
