An incomplete draft, but still a draft if you care. The title is tentative
Soon I may meet my high school classmates. We’ll have a reunion and we might reminisce about old times. The laughs we had, the teachers who we thought were cool, or even the best times of our lives before we hit adulthood.
I hate to ruin the party, but I like to be serious sometimes. High school wasn’t the best period of time for me. I’ve often talked about my high school experience here. It wasn’t a good time because for me that period marked a certain lawlessness, underachievement, and other things that I didn’t like about my high school.
So if I was to ever visit my old schoolmates, I would have a challenge for them. Of course this is assuming that their on the same page that I was. Certainly they might see it my way although there are a few who wouldn’t.
What do most alumni do after they’ve long left that particular institution. We could discuss college in general, but we could include elementary school or high school. We alumni in general finds an excuse to give back. Doesn’t have to be money, but something for certain.
What could I give back to my former elementary school and my former high school?
I haven’t figured that out yet. To be honest I declared to another classmate once that I felt more of a connection to my former elementary schools than I do my former high school. What could I give back to my elementary school?
These last few days I thought more about my high school. I still live in that general area. My mother told me that she witnessed a young lady running the snow with a plastic bag getting tackled by school security. My goodness they still have those problems.
Anyway I’ve always figured especially for my old elementary school I can serve on the LSC. Not necessarily a big committement but one to make with the idea of finding ways to enhance the experience of those young people who came after me. I would really like to do that.
What would I like to see at my old high school?
I mentioned in another post from Thursday that my school didn’t have a band. The band consisted of maybe at the most five individuals playing instruments. My school didn’t have a marching band per-se. If I could go back offer some ideas to my school it would be to start another marching band and instill some pride back at the school I literally felt none!
Hopefully a band will keep someone off the streets in ways that the school I went to weren’t able to do. Yeah we had sports but not everyone is interested in that. We did have a choir and they were great during my time there. Yeah I’m advertising for programs that there’s certainly no money for.
