Sorry about taking a blogging holiday

leave a comment

Starting yesterday, I suppose that I just didn’t feel like posting yesterday. That and that I had to get back on the road to finish out the rest of my semester at school. Thank goodness I only have a week and a half or so left. Two more class sessions and then final exams!

Thanksgiving was great. It was good to be home, but I’ll have more time at Christmas. Roughly a month, but hah, it’s better than three or four days at home. I think I’ll get back in the thick of things this week.

Let me tell ya. I can at least say I’ve posted more frequently this month than I had since I started this place! :-P

I’m such a geek!!!

I’ve in recent months was mulling the day, well at least before the RefugeeCamp moved from Invision to their own webspace, when I could move a blog and then have my own “dot-com”. It wouldn’t have been very fancy but I’ve always dreamed of that I would have my own webspace without having to take advantage of a free service.

A free service such as Geo-Cities. I guess Blogger could count since when you start your blog it would initiallity be on their servers until you decided to go onto your own webspace.

Anyway it does cost money for buying your own webspace. First you need to buy the domain and then you need to buy the domain name. It’s all money, but I wondered if I would be better off buying my own server.

For that you would need to buy a computer that would serve that purpose. Of course I might have to figure out domain name, server security, and internet connection and things like that. Still I can have a server right in my home or anywhere for that matter.

At least I have this post from ProBlogger where I can download a program that will allow me to run my own webserver and then put some files on there which will eventually become just another website on the internet. Of course for now all I want is a test specimen and then eventually I will get there. My own server man, I can say that I have big goals, all be it geeky goals.

A video about a congressional candidate

leave a comment

Watch this video from a Chicago TV program called Public Affairs. If you have a Congressional campaign going on in your neck of the woods this program is worth watching.

The man running for Congress is Jim Oberwise who have tried at least three times for office in Illinois ranging from US Senate to Illinois Governor. He lost those races but he hopes to be able to replace former Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert who is going to be leaving Congress this year. Thus this might force an earlier schedule for elections to be able to elect a replacement in his Congressional District.

The hope is, that the date for this special election either primary or general (not sure which) will be the date of the Presidential primaries which is in February (5th I think I have to look that up). There might be some bellyaching as to whether this could hurt Republicans and result in a Democratic pick-up but we shall see!

Oh, BTW, happy Thanksgiving. This would be just another holiday post but I haven’t touched politics in a while so here’s today’s helping!

Doctor Who – Time Crash – Children In Need 2007

YouTube Preview Image

This has got to be without a doubt the best 8 minutes of Doctor Who I have ever seen. Peter Davison reprises his role as the 5th Doctor while David Tennant is the current 10th Doctor. It is without a doubt the coolest Doctor Who I have seen on YouTube. It’s great to see Peter Davison as the Doctor again even though he is much older than he was when he first played the role.

It almost has me giving a speech to myself, although as a human I definitely don’t have a long life span nor can I regenerate into new faces and/or bodies. I would like to speak to myself when I was in the 7th Grade. Ah well the only way that could happen is if I had Time Lord technology.

BTW, this was a special episode for Children in Need, a British Charity so here’s another special Doctor Who I thought was interesting. This was from back in 1993 called Dimensions in Time almost four years after the original Doctor Who series was cancelled on the BBC.

Part 1

Part 2

In those two parts the Doctor is being held hostage by The Rani. We see the five living Doctors in an adventure although none are seen at the same time. It seems that the Doctors are constantly switching. The campanions are also constantly switching. This episode also take place on the set of a British soap called The East Enders and we see the characters from that program interact with the Doctor Who characters.

Oh BTW, the five Doctors we see are Jon Pertwee (3rd Doctor), Tom Baker (4th Doctor), Peter Davison (5th Doctor), Colin Baker (6th Doctor) and Sylvester McCoy (7th Doctor). We see busts representing the two Doctors who were actually captured, unfortunately both actors who played the roles William Hartnell (1st Doctor) and Patrick Troughton (2nd Doctor) had passed away long before filming on this episode. ALso this would be the last TV appearance of the 3rd Doctor because in 1996, Jon Pertwee died.

There you have it a Doctor Who post with vids. Happy?

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

leave a comment

Apparently on January 14th, 2008, there will be a new Terminator series. It seems like a ripoff of the famed movies. The last one was released just before the star of that film became governor of a major US State. Hmm perhaps I shouldn’t be so judgemental so look at this page from The Internet Movie Database.
